The Finance Elective is a critical component of the CPA professional education program. It focuses on advanced financial competencies that prepare candidates to excel in complex corporate finance, investment analysis, and financial decision-making scenarios. Our mentoring program is designed to guide candidates through the intricacies of the Finance Elective exam, ensuring not only knowledge mastery but also practical application skills to tackle both objective-format questions and case-based assessments effectively.
This program is ideal for candidates who want a structured, hands-on approach to learning, tailored to the demands of the Finance Elective exam, with a focus on exam strategy, competency development, and real-world application.
1. Objective-Format Portion
Constitutes 0–25% of the exam. Tests only competencies within the Finance Elective. Up to 30 questions. Candidates can expect approximately 15 objective-format questions based on the time estimated for the case portion. Allows access to restricted resource materials such as CPA Handbooks, the Income Tax Act, Excise Tax Act, tax shield formula, and other relevant tax information.
2. Case-Based Portion
Constitutes 75–100% of the exam. Maximum time per case: 120 minutes, minimum: 80 minutes. Candidates can expect two cases for a total of 200 minutes. Cases have a strong Finance focus but integrate one or two other competency areas. All prior learning, including Entry-level, Core 1, and Core 2 competencies, is potentially testable.
Key Notes:
The total examination time is four hours, with minimal time constraints. Candidates are responsible for managing time between objective-format questions and cases. The Finance Elective competency weight is 100%. Standards and regulations tested are those in effect as of December 31 of the prior year. Material released between December 1–31 is not testable.
